Mission Statement for the Information Systems Program of Study:
The objective of the program in information systems is to prepare information systems scholars for careers as researchers and educators in university programs. Our students may also prepare for careers as information systems professionals in industry. This program builds upon a firm technical foundation in such areas as programming, database management, telecommunications, and systems analysis and design. It provides students with a strong grounding in information systems research methodology and the current state of information systems research in such areas as electronic markets, e-commerce, global information systems, information retrieval, intelligent systems, financial information systems, and distance education, among others.

Admission Information
Students are accepted for fall admission only. The deadline for receiving applications and supporting documents is January 15. Students must submit scores from the Graduate Management Admissions Test along with their applications for admission. Evidence of good scholastic ability must be demonstrated. This usually involves a graduate grade point average of 3.5 or better and/or undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or better.

Fellowships and Research Assistanships
The Graduate School and University Center and Bernard M. Baruch College offer fellowships and research assistantships to students in the Ph.D. Program in Business. Most full-time doctoral students receive financial aid. Full- and part-time teaching positions are also available.
Students who do not have the prerequisite background upon acceptance into the program must audit the equivalent course listed prior to or during the first year of study.

The Information Systems Research Workshop meets bi-weekly. Students present their ongoing research and critique the presentations of others. Attendance is required.
After taking the Second Examination, the candidate should submit a dissertation proposal to the Executive Officer. Following approval of the dissertation by a committee of at least three faculty members, one of whom must be outside of the student's department, the student will be required to defend the dissertation at an oral examination.

Upon completing 45 credits with an average grade of B, including at least one course each in accounting, finance, marketing, and organizaional behavior and strategy, passing the preliminary research paper, and writing an acceptable major paper in a doctoral seminar, the student may apply for an M.B.A. degree. The student applies for the degree en route by writing to the Executive Officer and requesting it. The degree is awarded formally by the Bernard M. Baruch College.
